BCG

BCG opens every interview with a fit and experience conversation before the case, roughly the first ten to fifteen minutes, scored on drive, communication and a specific reason for BCG. This guide covers that fit portion, not the case.

The BCG process

3 of 5 stages you can practise here

  1. 01

Warm, low-pressure conversation with a recruiter

    motivationbackground fitcommunication
  2. 02
    Online assessment (not simulated here)

Region- and year-dependent, and the most likely-to-be-outdated element. BCG now commonly uses the 'BCG Online Case' featuring 'Casey,' a chatbot-driven interactive case; historically it used pymetrics gamified tests and the BCG Potential Test. Which one you hit varies by office/cohort. This is not a spoken round and is out of scope for this product.

  3. 03

Conversational open led by a consultant or project leader who introduces themselves, then asks you to walk through your resume or tell your story

problem solvingdrive, leadership & impactcommunication & presence
  4. 04

With a Partner or Managing Director & Partner this runs longer and feels like a genuine two-way conversation about your story and motivations

    motivation & fitmaturity & presenceleadership & ownership
  5. 05
    Decision

Usually communicated within days to ~2 weeks after the final round.

Common questions

Does BCG have a separate fit/behavioral round, or is fit part of the case interview?
BCG does not usually run a standalone fit-only round. The fit/experience/motivation conversation is embedded at the front of each interview, roughly the first 10-15 minutes, before the case begins. Both first-round (with consultants) and final-round (with Partners) interviews open this way. This product simulates that fit portion only; the case is excluded by design.
What does BCG evaluate in the fit conversation?
The commonly described dimensions are problem-solving/analytical thinking, drive and leadership/impact, communication and personal presence, and genuine fit and motivation (including teamwork and humility). BCG does not publish a formally named rubric like McKinsey's PEI, so treat these as a community-standard summary rather than official BCG language.
How should I answer 'Why BCG?'
Give a specific, non-generic answer that could not be pasted onto any other firm. A hollow 'why BCG', an unownable leadership story ('we did' instead of 'I did'), or vague outcomes are real dings, especially at final round with a Partner. Strong answers are concise and structured (STAR-shaped without sounding robotic), quantify impact, and show self-awareness.
Is there a coding or system-design round at BCG?
No. A BCG consulting loop is entirely spoken and conversational. There is no live-coding round and no technical system-design round. The only technical component is the case interview (and, separately, an online assessment such as the 'Casey' chatbot case), neither of which is part of this fit-focused simulation.
