Apple

Hiring runs team by team rather than through one pipeline. Expect deep ownership of your past work, a real reason for Apple, and interviewers who reward detail and collaborative debate.

    Onsite Loop (virtual or in-person)

~4-6 rounds clustered in one block consistently covering three capabilities: coding, system design, and behavioral/collaboration. Distinctive Apple trait: some rounds are run by a pair of interviewers at once.

Common questions

How many rounds is the Apple software engineer interview?
Most commonly about five to seven rounds total: a recruiter or hiring-manager screen, one to three live coding phone screens, then an onsite loop of roughly four to six rounds covering coding, system design, and behavioral. Because each team owns its own process, the exact count genuinely varies, occasionally reaching eight.
What coding platform and language does Apple use?
Live coding is typically done on CoderPad, and most teams let you choose your own language. Interviewers tend to probe core-language depth more than at many companies, so pick a language you know deeply.
Does Apple use leadership principles like Amazon?
No. Apple does not publish a named leadership-principles list or an engineering interview scoring rubric. Behavioral rounds are evaluated against general cultural pillars: collaboration, attention to detail, innovation, dealing with ambiguity, and passion for the product.
Is there a system design round for entry-level candidates?
Usually not. At entry level (ICT2-ICT3) the loop is coding-heavy plus behavioral, with system design lighter or omitted. A dedicated system-design round becomes standard at mid/senior levels (ICT4 and above).
